Valentine's Dinner Theatre

Pleasant Hill invites you to their ninth Valentine’s Dinner Theatre!

Pleasant Hill Christian Church is gearing up to present the dinner theatre, “Dead to the Last Drop, for your Valentine’s entertainment. After eight consecutive years of entertaining outstanding crowds, the dinner theatre was forced to take a 2 year covid-induced hiatus. But 2023 marks its return! “Dead to the Last Drop” dinner theatre will be presented Friday, February 17th with a 6PM meal served and on Saturday, February 18th at an earlier 5PM serving time. Pleasant Hill staff member Darrin Daugherty sends an invitation to all: “The 2023 production promises to be another great time for all in attendance. Our director and cast have been working hard for several months to rehearse this production. It will have unique qualities that separate it from past productions, as Director Crissy Dowland works hard to pick a different theme each year”.

As the evening opens, everyone will enjoy a terrific meal. As the production unfolds, you’ll attempt to unravel the question, who committed the deed. “Dead To The Last Drop”, is set in “Café Caffeine” a combination coffeehouse & bookstore. While the café’s menu may be limited, the laughs will not be. Tilly is the main cook and waitress at Café Caffeine, but she lacks skills and knowledge to      perform either of those jobs. The audience will love the remaining cast of characters as well, but will they be able to determine who is guilty? It may be more confusing than a game of Clue!

Although it’s rich with laughs, this mystery is the perfect treat for a Valentine’s production. Director Crissy Dowland shares, “For our 2023 production I located several strong scripts and ended up going with this unique coffeehouse bookstore themed production. Each year offers a different theme, and this one will be a treat as well. The comedy has laughs to which everyone can relate. Everyone can relate to the setting of a coffeehouse or bookstore, but hopefully no one is related to the crazy cast of characters that make up the personalities on stage!  You’ll recognize some of the drinks at the coffeehouse, you might see a few book titles you recognize, but will you be able to identify the character who committed the murder? This production has an ending that the cast won’t even see coming… because it’s a surprise to all!”

This year’s production features a tight knit production between 6 cast members that share the stage. Pleasant Hill members from Montgomery and Macoupin Counties make up the great talent carrying out this a production. “Dead to the Last Drop” features Jay Fetter from Litchfield, Crissy Dowland and Heather Lohnes-Kanallakan from Carlinville, and Raymond residents Dee Neisler, Greg Neisler, and Melissa Satterlee round out this terrific cast.

As the production unfolds you will enjoy the characters, laugh at their antics, and attempt to unravel the mystery of “who dun it”? Everyone is invited to make reservations now for this hilarious comedy with a touch of mystery. Pleasant Hill is thrilled to offer this event once again for our communities. The doors open for seating 20 minutes prior to each production, a buffet begins the evening, and the drama production follows, and we do take intermission for dessert! Tickets for the Dinner Theatre begin at $60/couple and are cheaper by the table. Seating is strictly limited to reservations only. To make reservations for the dinner theatre tickets: print out the reservation page, complete & submit it following the directions on the page.

We look forward to hosting you!

Lindley Creek Christmas Concert

On Sunday, December 11th, everyone is invited to kick off their Christmas season with a special concert featuring the progressive bluegrass style of Lindley Creek. This 6PM concert will be held at Pleasant Hill Christian Church 19433 West Frontage Road, Raymond, IL. The concert will feature a mix of bluegrass and Christmas favorites.

The release of their album Freedom, Love and the Open Road marks a new beginning for the family band Lindley Creek as it represents years of musical evolution. This impressive recording reflects the personal growth of the group, a result of the Greer Family’s desire to create a unique musical style of their own. Lindley Creek performed at Pleasant Hill in January 2022 as Covid was slowing down. The crowd was limited, but the enthusiasm the audience had for Lindley Creek was overwhelmingly positive.

Pleasant Hill staff member Darrin Daugherty shares, “I was thrilled to discover that Lindley Creek had a December opening before heading south for their winter tour. Our church loves a variety of music styles. While performing a mix of genres, Lindley Creek provides a bluegrass basis to their music that is appropriate for all ages.” While Lindley Creek may be limited to Montgomery County audiences, the story of Lindley Creek, however, begins years ago when the Greer Family collectively discovered the bluegrass genre.

Hailing from the Ozark Mountains and the prairie lands of Missouri, Lindley Creek features Kathie Greer on guitar, songwriting, and vocals; husband John Greer on bass; daughter Katie Greer on mandolin, songwriting and lead vocals; and son Jase Greer on fiddle, songwriting and harmony vocals.

Pleasant Hill invites everyone to enjoy this concert. This concert is not a ticketed event, nor will an offering be taken. Staff member Darrin Daugherty shares, “We believe that is a great chance to kick-off December with some great musical talent. This is simply a gift from the church to our communities. We hope everyone will come out, relax, and enjoy!” Refreshments will be provided after the concert

The church is certainly decorated in the Christmas spirit as well. Upon their arrival, guest will be met by 30+ trees glistening with white lights adorning the lobby & sanctuary. Six nativity sets placed throughout continue to remind us of the birth of our Savior, and the reason for our joy & celebration.

Pleasant Hill features worship on Sundays at 8am & 10:15am. This year the Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Services will expand to three services to accommodate the audiences. Join at 3:30pm, 5pm, or 6:30PM on December 24th.

Your friends at Pleasant Hill hope to see you December 11th at 6pm to enjoy this great music! Seating will begin at 5:30pm. To learn more about Lindley Creek and to preview their music, go to: www.lindleycreek.com. For more info about Pleasant Hill call 217-229-3074 or visit www.pleasanthill.cc.

COMEDYSPORTZ Comedy Show

COMEDYSPORTZ comes to Pleasant Hill!

Something unique is taking the stage at Pleasant Hill Christian Church. On Friday, March 4th COMEDYSPORTZ will kickoff at 7PM. We all love to laugh, and this is the perfect event to shake off those winter blues. COMEDYSPORTZ is clean, outrageously funny improv (like you’ve seen on television’s “Whose Line Is It Anyway”). But this format is played like a sport. Actually, it’s the perfect combination of Funny and Sports to create an explosion of laughter and competition on stage.

Pleasant Hill staff member Darrin Daugherty explains, “as I was searching for talent to bring to THE HILL, I ran across this COMEDYSPORTZ group out of St Louis, MO. After previewing their friendly competition videos on their website, I knew it would be hilarious to see them live.”

In COMEDYSPORTZ the Red team huddles on one side of the stage, while the Blue team takes their position across the other side. After they are set, the Referee moves to the center of the stage in a black & white zebra style shirt. The audience does not come onto the stage to perform, but they are sometimes involved from the comfort of their chairs.

The referee will ask the audience for input. For example, the referee may ask the audience to yell out a favorite fruit, vehicle, occupation, or anything! The Referee will then compose the action and it is up to the Red & Blue teams to “battle it out”. While both teams are putting their best moves forward, the audience is the judge of this performance. After the action winds down, the teams receive their “scores”. Those “scores” are issued via the laughter & applause from the audience.

The Referee will then award points to the team, and the entire jocularity repeats itself again!  COMEDYSPORTZ Talent, Mike McGuire explains that COMEDYSPORTZ entertainment is engaging and appropriate for all ages. Mike shared that no two shows are ever alike. Since the audience helps write the playbook, you never know where the action is headed until the clock starts. The only real rule is that there are not many rules!

Tickets to see this talent rich group are only $10.00 each. The teams will be competing for approximately 90 minutes. An intermission will occur. During the intermission, Daugherty promises “hydration & a snack” will be available to all the audience members who have purchased tickets online in advance. (Obviously pre-purchased tickets will allow Daugherty to gauge his purchases to prepare for the evening.)  If tickets remain, they will be available at the door for $15, but may not include the intermission refreshments.

Pleasant Hill Christian Church is conveniently located at 19433 West Frontage Road, Raymond, IL. Darrin can be reached at 217.229.3074. To see a preview of COMEDYSPORTZ, see their site at www.cszstlouis.com.

The release of the wonderful album Freedom, Love and the Open Road marks a new beginning for the family band Lindley Creek as it represents years of musical evolution. This impressive recording reflects the personal growth of the group, a result of the Greer Family’s desire to create a unique musical style of their own.

Hailing from the Ozark Mountains and the prairie lands of Missouri, Lindley Creek features Kathie Greer on guitar, songwriting and vocals; husband John Greer on bass; daughter Katie Greer on mandolin, songwriting and lead vocals; and son Jase Greer on fiddle, songwriting and harmony vocals.

When their kids were young, Kathie and John Greer were seeking music that they could play around the house that the whole family could share as they raised their kids Katie, Jase and Tate. Gospel music was already in their life, but one day bluegrass music found its way into the mix, and it changed everything for the Greer Family. That simple spark led to all in the Greer Family becoming bluegrass musicians.

As the kids grew older, Kathie picked up the guitar she had owned since her college days and finally learned how to play it. John took up the bass, daughter Katie grabbed the mandolin, while brothers Jase and Tate played the fiddle and banjo respectively. The bluegrass music of Ricky Skaggs became influential for the family at that point as they dove headlong into the genre.

As the Greer clan’s talent vocally and on their respective instruments increased, they named themselves Lindley Creek after a creek near where John grew up and began to perform locally. Eventually, as the kids grew older, the group performed at festivals, in churches and in small venues. There came a point, however, as their tour schedule continued to expand, that John had to decide to leave his day job. It was then the Greer Family knew they were all in. Lindley Creek had become a full-time, traveling band. They sold their house at one point and put their life savings into the purchase of a tour bus, which was their only full-time dwelling for four years.

Then, they bought a church back in Missouri because it had a stage for rehearsals, eventually remodeling the building and turning it into a demo song recording studio. A decade and a half later, as all three Greer kids began to enter adulthood, Tate would eventually leave Lindley Creek to start his own family and pursue another career. Now a foursome, the group decided to shoot for the stars and perfect their own unique sound.

Along came Lindley Creek’s impressive recording: Freedom, Love and the Open Road features an excellent selection of songs chosen for the project along with original cuts written by Kathie and Jase Greer. Tight and smooth family harmonies are present on the recording, a phenomenon that only kin can share due to shared accents and intuition. But more than anything else, this album showcases the lead singing talents of Katie Greer.

While Lindley Creek toured throughout the heartland from North Dakota to Texas, points mostly west of the Mississippi River in the past, they plan to connect with fans in the Southeast, the Midwest and the heart of Bluegrass Country with the release of Freedom, Love and the Open Road.

“I listened to just bluegrass music until I was a teenager, and then I began to listen to country and pop music and everything else after that,” says Katie Greer. “With my vocals, I feel like I draw from other musical genres and not just bluegrass. I love bluegrass, but I also love Whitney Houston and all of the powerhouse female vocalists. I also like John Mayer a lot. I like any artist that can sing really well and can connect themselves emotionally to the music. When I was in the studio recording Freedom, Love and the Open Road, I learned so much. It was very challenging for me. But, it is cool to learn and grow and finally understand things that you have wanted to understand for a long time.”

Watch for Lindley Creek to make their mark on the bluegrass and gospel scene very soon as the Freedom, Love and the Open Road album and the first single “Gotta Go” hits the airwaves. It is an exciting time as this new band breaks into the greater bluegrass scene with passion, talent and years of experience!
