HIStory at Pleasant Hill Christian Church

Pleasant Hill Christian Church’s history dates back to 1868 when 12 charter members organized as a Christian Church in April of that year.

Shortly after organizing, the members started planning a church building they could call their own. That building was completed, and on April 14, 1873 the congregation dedicated their church on a “pleasant hill” three miles west and two miles south of Raymond. Forevermore the church would be known as “Pleasant Hill Christian Church”.

After the church had been relocated a few times, it was moved to its present location in 1971. That move was necessary because the federal government announced plans to construct I-55, and the church would be in the northbound lane. But in this location, the church continued to flourish. Through the coming years, the church saw attendance increase on the “interstate church”, and space was becoming a premium. In the fall of 1999 Pleasant Hill added 8,400 square feet which allowed for a new sanctuary, classrooms, prayer room, conference room, nursery, and the preacher’s study. The church held its first service in the present facility on Easter Sunday 2000.

As the church family continued to grow, God opened another avenue to Pleasant Hill. In March of 2005 the church purchased 2.3 acres of land with a home & garage adjacent to the north of the church. That expansion allowed the congregation more opportunities. The greenspace has been utilized for picnics, VBS programs, recreational space, and special events. The large 3 car garage was converted to the Youth Garage for the Middle School & High School Students. The parsonage has been utilized by the church staff as well. Then, in the fall of 2008, the church purchased 15 acres of farmland adjoining our north boundary that currently remains in crop production until it is developed in the future.

Each day we continue to be amazed at the many ways The Lord blesses our church & congregation. We would love to have you join us on the journey.
